A bridge's life is simple. Stand there. Look good. Don't fall.
The garden pond had been there for months. Peaceful. Reflective. Slightly smug about the whole thing.
Then the bridge arrived.
It didn't ask for much. A spot over the water. A little respect from the surrounding trees. Maybe the occasional compliment from a passing visitor. The pond ignored it at first — ponds are like that. But eventually, even the pond had to admit: the garden looked better with the bridge in it.
The little wooden arch stood there, railings perfectly in place, doing exactly what a bridge is supposed to do. Connecting things. Looking elegant. Minding its own business.
The pond never apologized. But it stopped being smug. That's basically the same thing.
